Black Moon - Enta Da Stage Samples

From Kevin Nottingham:
My man, John Q from href="http://lyricstogo.blogspot.com/">Lyrics To Go, is back in the
sample game! He hit me up and wanted to share this Black
Moon
set that he has been working on. Big props to John Q for puttin'
this one together!

Released on October 19, 1993, Enta Da Stage is the debut album
from Black Moon. The group consists of Buckshot, 5ft, and DJ Evil Dee
(of Da Beatminerz), although Buckshot is the primary
emcee on most of the tracks. This album was also the debut production
for Da Beatminerz's DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt.

Da Beatminerz laced the album with their signature basement sound,
filled with hard drums, grimy horn arrangements and dark basslines. In the
album's liner notes, DJ Evil Dee stated: "This album was done on
blunted terms. Anyone who is offended by the contents of the album, FUCK YOU.
Nuff said."

A few of the samples used here were later recreated by a number of hip
hop artists in the '90s. The single "Buck Em Down" features a sample
from Donald Byrd's "Wind Parade", a sample which was later re-used for
Organized Konfusion's 1994 concept track "Stray Bullet". "How Many
MC's..." features a sample from Grover Washington, Jr.'s "Hydra", which was
used for earlier hip hop tracks like EPMD's "Underground". Evil Dee and
Walt take a portion of the sample and craft it into a different loop.
Check all the samples below...

From John Q:
Thank you. Thank You. Know you all know you can believe evrything you see out there now can you. Coming Back to reality, I want to give props for Kevin for packaging this set together. I had this set for awhile except I needed one song (hopefully someone will provide it). This set is a pretty dope listen and it is nice to see the way the Da Beatminerz flipped these samples into that grimy, fierce drum, sound that would make them stand out as one of hip-hop's top producton crew for years to come. So enjoy and I guess this is a big way to step back into the Blogging scene. So hope you digs the sample set (of course you willlllllllllllll......)

Thank you for the superb research effort!

A little correction though. "Spinning Wheel" was recorded by Lonnie Smith, NOT Lonnie Liston Smith. No Liston there, you see.

These are two different people. Lonni Smith is the true wizzard of the Hammond organ, started out with George Benson's quartet in the mid-sixties, recorded some amazing stuff on Blue Note.

You're not he first to make this small mistake.

Once again, huge props for the magnificent work!
